How to Solve Common Oral Health Problems

Have a few things about your smile that you’re less than happy with? You’re far from the only one. Oral health problems are aboundingly common, but thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to fight them. Here are a few common complaints when it comes to oral health, as well as steps you can take to solve them:

  • Discoloration: Tooth discoloration and staining is a very common issue, especially as we get older. When it comes to whiter teeth, though, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The best way to fight discoloration is to avoid dark-colored foods and liquids like tomato sauce, dark berries, wine, and coffee, but a professional in-office teeth cleaning treatment can help you reclaim white teeth and eliminate stains.
  • Bad Breath: Bad breath after eating pungent food is one thing, but if you suffer from chronic bad breath (AKA halitosis), it may be a sign of a more serious problem. Bad breath like this is usually caused by a buildup of bacteria in the mouth and on the tongue, so the best way to fight it is through diligent oral hygiene. Don’t forget to thoroughly brush your tongue, as well!
  • Gum Disease: Gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease, is rampant among adults. Gingivitis is marked by red, swollen, inflamed gums, and a common symptoms is gums that bleed when you floss your teeth. The best way to fight gingivitis is diligent oral hygiene, so make sure to brush twice a day and floss daily, without exceptions. Without proper treatment, gingivitis can progress into more aggressive periodontitis, so daily oral hygiene is vital to keep it in check.
